Filter Media
Glass lasts six years. Sand lasts eighteen months.
EcoClear glass comes in coarse and fine, beds properly against the laterals, and needs replacing roughly every six years. Silica sand needs doing every 18 to 24 months — which means opening the filter, lifting out wet media, disposing of it and closing it up again, three or four times over the same period.

How much media does my filter need?
A bag filter takes roughly one 40 kg bag of sand per bag of rated capacity. Glass is lighter and you use less of it. This will work out the quantity for your filter and compare the cost over six years.
