Your weir is the only suction point on a South African pool — the drain in the floor is a hydrostatic valve, not part of the pump circuit. So if the weir is wrong, undersized or leaking air, nothing downstream works properly. Which weir do I have?
Most weir orders go wrong because three different weirs share the same terracotta deck lid — and a Collins Mark 1 has no vacuum lid at all. Start with the lid you walk on.
What is the pool shell made of?
This decides gunite or liner. They are not interchangeable.
New installation, or is there a weir already?
The lid you walk on — square or round?
Stand on the paving and look down at the weir. This one question splits the whole range.
Which Collins is it?
Lift the square lid off and look at what is underneath.
What colour is the vacuum lid?
The lid inside the weir, not the one in the paving. Fastest identifier on a round weir.
Which of these is your lid?
All three are terracotta, so colour will not separate them. Look at the shape and count the fins.
Thin lid or thick lid?
Swimquip and the Speck Badu Skim both use a white vacuum lid. Pick it up — the Badu Skim one is noticeably heavier, and the baskets are different colours.
What does the basket look like?
Lift it out and look at the middle of it.
