The Speck MultiCyclone 16 Plus is a two-stage pool pre-filter. Sixteen hydrocyclones spin heavier dirt and sediment into a clear chamber, and a cartridge element with 3.7 m² (40 ft²) of filter area catches finer material. It uses 63 mm connection ports, is rated to 50 psi maximum pressure, has a glass filled thermoplastic body and is purged through a 1 inch valve.

This is the practical difference between the two Plus units. Sixty-three millimetre connections suit larger pipework and a bigger pump, and they are the reason to choose this one over the 12 Plus rather than the cyclone count alone.

The cyclones protect the cartridge
Grit is spun out and dropped into the clear chamber before the water reaches the element. That is the whole point of combining them — a cartridge that is only asked to catch fine material lasts a great deal longer between cleans.

The sediment chamber is emptied through the 1 inch purge valve. No backwash cycle, no medium to rinse, and the element is a separate and much rarer job.
